Dec 7, 2022: BJP claimed victories in three of the four wards in the Patparganj Assembly segment and all three in the Shakur Basti constituency spearheaded by senior AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain respectively. Both the leaders have been at the receiving end of sustained attacks over corruption by BJP in run up to the MCD polls.
Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had directed a probe into the Delhi government’s now-scrapped excise policy which had further resulted in a CBI raid on locations associated with Sisodia. The BJP stated the AAP had employed the excise policy to “receive kickbacks” and assured that Sisodia, who was a key figure in its framing, would “face the music and the law”.
In Patparganj, Sisodia’s Assembly constituency, the BJP has won three of four wards. The BJP’s Renu Chaudhary emerged victorious in the Patparganj ward by a margin of 403 votes against the AAP candidate. Meanwhile, Ravinder Singh Negi trumped AAP’s Kuldeep Bhandari by a margin of 2311 votes to win in the Vinod Nagar ward. In Mandawali, the BJP’s Shashi Chandna won against the AAP’s Reena Tomar by 186 votes.
The AAP only managed to claim victory in one seat, Mayur Vihar Phase II, wherein its candidate Devender Kumar won.
BJP’s candidates in Satyendar Jain’s Assembly segment performed even better, clinching all three municipal wards — Saraswati Vihar, Paschim Vihar and Rani Bagh – in his Shakur Basti constituency.
Sikha Bhardwaj of BJP claimed the Saraswati Vihar ward by 3,150 votes against the AAP’s Urmila Gupta and Vinneet Vohra beat AAP nominee Shalu Duggal by a margin of 2,044 votes in Paschim Vihar. Meanwhile, Jyoti Aggarwal of BJP won from Rani Bagh against Mithlesh Pathak by 1,387 votes.
Jain, who is in jail in an Enforcement Directorate case, has been at the receiving end of relentless attack by the BJP, especially after videos of him getting a massage and receiving visitors in his cell were released to the public.
