New Delhi: Violence in Maharashtra  remained on edge due to a bandh called by Dalit groups to protest the violence on the anniversary of a battle fought 200 years ago. Jignesh Mevani and JNU student Umar Khalid on Thursday were booked by the Pune police under sections 153A. Mevani allegedly called for ‘street fights’ to end the rule of one section of people over others.

On Friday, Gujarat MLA, Jignesh Mevani at a Conference in new delhi denied making an provocative speech at an event in Pune and said that his image is being deliberately tarnished by members of the Sangh Parivar and BJP.

Jignesh Mevani said “Not even a single word of my speech was inflammatory, I am just being targeted. No part of my speech was provocative or inflammatory, Members of Sangh Parivar & BJP made a childish attempt to tarnish my image and target me, it is an after effect of the Gujarat results & it is also because they have a sense of fear about 2019.”

“The results of the Gujarat elections have dented the ego of BJP and the charges against him are politicall motivated in the wake of his rising popularity”, Added Mewani.
