New Delhi, June 19, 2024: Member of Parliament P. Wilson has raised serious concerns about the Union Government’s inaction regarding the alleged illegalities in the NEET UG 2024 examinations. Amidst growing evidence of paper leaks and other criminal activities, Wilson has criticized the government for not initiating a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) enquiry, which he believes is crucial to preserving evidence and ensuring justice.
The states of Bihar and Gujarat have already taken action by registering First Information Reports (FIRs) and starting their own investigations into the examination scams. However, Wilson warns that the delay in ordering CBI enquiries might enable perpetrators to destroy evidence in states where FIRs have yet to be filed or investigations have not commenced.
Wilson’s statement underscores the gravity of the situation: “Despite the overwhelming evidence pointing to various illegalities in the #NEETUG2024Exams, such as paper leaks and other criminal offenses, the Union Government has not yet ordered a CBI enquiry. This delay is unacceptable and may result in critical evidence being erased, hindering justice for the affected students.”
The MP also questioned the lack of accountability among officials involved in the scandals, expressing his frustration on social media: “It is concerning that no action has been taken against any of the officials involved in these scams. Why are Hon’ble @JPNadda and Hon’ble @dpradhanbjp attempting to shield these officials?”
Wilson urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to consider significant reforms, including the potential elimination of the NEET and EXIT tests by amending “The National Commission Act 2019” in the upcoming Parliament sessions. Such a change would grant individual states the authority to manage their own medical admission procedures, possibly mitigating the issues currently plaguing the national exams.
Additionally, Wilson called upon President Droupadi Murmu to grant assent to the Tamil Nadu NEET Exemption Bill, which was passed in 2021 but has yet to be enacted. This bill seeks to exempt Tamil Nadu from the NEET exams, allowing the state to implement its own admission process for medical colleges.
The call for a CBI enquiry and legislative changes comes amidst a growing chorus of voices demanding accountability and transparency in the examination process, as students and parents nationwide await decisive action from the government.
