New Delhi, July 31, 2023: In a shocking incident, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel unleashed gunfire inside a running train near Palghar railway station in Maharashtra, claiming the lives of four individuals, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI). The incident occurred on the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Superfast Express (12956) on Monday morning, sending shockwaves through the railway community.

The accused, identified as RPF Constable Chetan Singh, carried out the heinous act at approximately 5 am, using his official automatic weapon. Among the casualties was his own RPF colleague, ASI Tika Ram Meena, who was responsible for escort duty. In a horrifying turn of events, Singh then targeted three innocent passengers on the train, which was en route to Mumbai from Jaipur.

After committing the crime, the constable fled to another coach and continued his shooting spree, leaving three lives abruptly extinguished. The swift and tragic chain of events has left authorities and passengers in shock and grief.

The Railway Protection Force has taken immediate action, apprehending the accused constable along with his weapon. He was captured by the police at Mira Road, with the collaborative efforts of Government Railway Police and RPF officials.

According to news agency PTI, the constable opened fire after the train crossed Palghar Station, subsequently pulling the emergency chain and alighting near Dahisar Station. The Chief Public Relations Officer of the railways confirmed these chilling details.

As the incident unfolded, panic and chaos ensued among passengers, who were left grappling with the senseless act of violence within the confined space of a moving train. The motive behind the horrifying act remains unknown, as authorities delve into the investigation.
