Need diversions to avoid traffic snarls’

Noida: The Confederation of NCR RWAs (CONRWA) on Thursday asked the Noida Authority chairman to green-light temporary U-turns and diversions on roads across the city where construction of Metro or the elevated road between Sector 58-61 and Sector 24-33 is underway, to prevent traffic snarls. In their letter to Authority chairman Pravir Kumar, CONRWA has written that traffic snarls have not eased on several roads in the city, despite the Authority’s plan of opening part of the elevated road, being built over Master Plan road-II, from July-end. They demanded the Authority remove unused construction material lying on the roadsides, such as iron rods and sheets, that block commuters from freely accessing roads. “The under-construction elevated road, as well as Metro work in parts of Noida, have led to a complete breakdown of traffic management.

Large parts of these roads are occupied by barricades, with unused construction material piled up elsewhere, which lead to huge jams during peak hours. Commuters are stuck for hours within Noida,” said P S Jain, the CONRWA president.Jain also asked for creation of temporary U-turns and diversions on Noida’s main thoroughfares. “By providing diversions and temporary U-turns, most traffic snarls can be reduced,” said Jain. The Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA) had already demanded widening of roads where Metro work is going on, as well as along the elevated road.
