New Delhi, 31st July 2023: Netflix is looking for an artificial intelligence (AI) manager with a pay of up to $900,000 (about Rs 7.4 crore) per year. The position, which is still vacant, will “increase the leverage” of Netflix’s machine learning programme and will allow for remote work.
The product manager will “increase the leverage” of Netflix’s machine learning programme, which will involve leveraging AI across all elements of Netflix’s business, including content acquisition and personalising user recommendations.
The company stated on their website, “The overall market range for roles in this area of Netflix is typically $300,000 – $900,000.”
Another position in the organisation that requires AI skills is that of technical director in its Game Studio. Netflix is giving a yearly salary of $650,000 (about Rs 5 crore) for it.
Meanwhile, requests for such lucrative positions come as Hollywood unions go on strike over fears about how AI may effect the entertainment business and compensation.
This is a major problem for the actors’ union, Sag-Aftra, which has been open about its concerns that AI and algorithms have too much power.
Sag-Aftra’s Fran Drescher said in conversation with Time magazine, “Algorithms dictate how many episodes a season needs to be before you reach a plateau of new subscribers and how many seasons a series needs to be on…That reduces the amount of episodes per season to between six and 10, and it reduces the amount of seasons to three or four. You can’t live on that.”
She added, “We’re being systematically squeezed out of our livelihood by a business model that was foisted upon us, that has created a myriad of problems for everyone up and down the ladder.”
