Pune(India), 13/08/23: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari stated on Saturday that he aims to remove sirens from VIP vehicles as reducing sound pollution is critical.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony of Pune’s Chandni Chowk Flyover, Gadkari was quoted by the ANI, “I am lucky that I got an opportunity to end the red light (beacon) on VIP’s vehicle. Now, I am planning to put an end to sirens on VIP vehicles.”

Gadkari also stated that he wants the calming melodies of Indian musical instruments to replace the sound of horns and sirens. He said, “I am making a policy in which the siren sound would be replaced by the sound of Basuri (flute), tabla, and ‘shankh’. I want people to be relieved from noise pollution.

The minister inaugurated a multi-level flyover built at Chandni Chowk in Pune, Maharashtra, on Saturday. According to Gadkari, the entire project included the construction of four flyovers, one underpass widening, and two new underpasses. Gadkari noted that the Chandni Chowk flyover project intends to relieve traffic congestion in Pune.

The minister stated that the bridge, which is 16.98 kilometres long and will cost Rs 865 crore, will alleviate the main problem of traffic congestion in Pune city and district.

The 2.2 km long Chandni Chowk Interchange has been constructed as part of this 16-kilo-meter-long project. He stated that both sides of the Mumbai-Bangalore route have two lanes internal and two lanes exterior service.

“A total of eight ramps have been built to go in eight different directions from the same interchange, providing strong connectivity to various areas.”

This multi-level flyover was built to alleviate traffic congestion on NH-48 between Pune and Bangalore and in the surrounding area. The groundwork for this initiative was laid five years ago.
