Since diwali this is the first time that city had some fresh air as the  air quality in Noida has improved  Thursday recording an air quality index (AQI) of 143, in the ‘moderate’ category. Noida was the cleanest city in the National Capital Region on Thursday. The AQI for Ghaziabad on Thursday was 209, while Delhi’s was at 194. Faridabad recorded an AQI of 222 and Gurgaon’s at 212.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board data, on Wednesday, the AQI for Noida was 303 in the ‘very poor’ category. On Tuesday, the AQI was at 411 in the ‘severe’ category. This is for the first time that the air quality has improved in Noida after Diwali, much to the relief of residents. For the past 50 days, Delhi-ncr has been suffering from deteriorating air quality due to various reasons, including pollution from industries, vehicles, stubble burning and open burning of waste.

“Due to strong winds and a drizzle on Wednesday night, it seems that the dust in the air has finally started to settle. It is a welcome change for us Noida residents and we hope that the condition continues to remain the same. Also, it is our responsibility as citizens to not flout environment laws and further damage the ecosystem,” said Suresh Tiwari, general secretary, resident’s welfare association of Sector 20.

District magistrate BN Singh also welcomed the drop in AQI and said “Bringing down the pollution level has been the topmost priority for our administration in the past one month and our officials have been working round the clock”.
