“Once you enter hospitality industry, you will never be penniless”: Dr. Sanee Awsarmmel, Asian Chairperson of ACOHI

New Delhi, 31 July 2022: In an exclusive conversation with Ten News, Dr. Sanee Awsarmmel, the Asian Chairperson of ACOHI (Asian Countries Chamber of Hospitality Industry) shared his views on the industry, its future potential along with the obstacles and gave an insightful message to youth aspiring to enter the industry.

In response to the growth and future potential of the hospitality industry, Dr. Awsarmmel stated, “Within a very short span of time, we are going to be leaders in the entire world. The hospitality industry is a huge industry that contributes to 10% of India’s GDP. It consists of 5-star hotels, restaurants, catering units, catering colleges, railways, airports, malls and even the house helps are the last soldiers of the hospitality industry. We are in an extremely successful mode and we are striving towards making India a successful leader across Asia and the world,” he added.

He highlighted some of the challenges of the hospitality industry including manpower shortage, lack of good catering colleges and so on. To eradicate this, Dr. Awsarmmel suggested, awareness should be spread to the remotest corner of the nation and crash courses should be started. “Revamping the salary structure is also absolutely essential as because of lack of remuneration upgradation in the hospitality industry people switch to other industries after completing their structured education,” Dr Awsarmmel said.

 

While speaking about the platforms and ways to promote the hospitality industry, Dr. Awsarmmel said, “As far as Government of India, Ministry of Tourism, FSAI, FDA, Maharashtra, catering colleges are concerned and on behalf of the industry even we are trying our level best to promote and propagate this industry to the nook and corner of the country.”

He also left a crucial message for all the young entrepreneurs yearning to join this industry, “During the Covid period, when the entire economy was shut, the food business was still running. Although we faced losses due to lockdown, this business still achieved a lot of excellence. My message for the people aspiring to join the hospitality industry is that once you enter this industry, I assure you that you will never be penniless. It is an extremely vast industry but my only advice is to complete your studies, gain knowledge and then put your foot in this industry.”
