ASHISH KEDIA , TEN NEWS
Renowned Cardiologist Padma Vibhushan Dr. Purshotam Lal very seriously talks about bringing noticeable change to the rural health domain of India. He also reveals why this matter is very close to his heart and how he has derived a three point formulae to get things better in Indian Villages.
TN: What is you view of rural health scenario in India?
Dr.PL: Various governments have come and everyone has tried their best in rural health domain. Until and unless the doctors who are trained well and are specialists in their fields are made available in Villages situation isn’t going to change much. How we can do it? There are many things that can be done. Personally I have been involved with rural health care a lot, I have done a lot o fresearch, for many years. I myself have done my schooling from a village that didn’t had electricity. I lost my father in very young age primarily due to non-availability of good healthcare. So when you yourself suffer your brain works very well in that direction.
I have a three-point formula that if followed well can bring great improvement in rural health sector. But alas no government has time to follow these things. Even we doctors are quite busy. I have tried with previous Health Minister but things didn’t work out as well as they should have been. Both doctors and non-doctors have to join hands to resolve rural health care issue. Compelling a fresh MMBS doctor to spend first few years in Villages is not going to help much. It is not very nice to push the doctors. The formulae should be such that specialists must go to village happily. I have formulae that can make it happen. I request government to address this issue in totality and not in pieces. Once we move ahead in the rural health domain then only can we talk about health for all.
