Pankaj Singh: Awareness program needed to crack down use of polythene

Regarding problems of city MLA Pankaj Singh held a meeting with the district magistrate, senior officials from the Noida authority. District Magistrate camp organised meeting all issues of city are discussed thoroughly and a blue print are prepared to resolve them.

One of the main issues discussed in the meeting was the ill effects of polythene bags on the environment. Singh asked the district administration to spread awareness in residential areas on the issue and convince people to not use polythene bags.

The district administration along with the Noida authority will be approaching residents to discuss the issue. Officials will also be taking the help of residents’ welfare associations to reach out to maximum people. “I have asked officials to reach out to the public. I have asked the officials to also meet the market associations and give traders a deadline to stop using and selling polythene bags. We have to penalise shopkeepers if they are still using polythene bags,” MLA Singh said.

“The authority had made 10 committees to look into the issue of polythene bags and it was functioning for a year. The MLA has asked the authority to revive these committees,” said BN Singh, district magistrate. “If we are asked to spread awareness on the issue, we will definitely help the officials because it’s high time that people understand the seriousness of the issue,” said AN Dhawan, general secretary, Federation of Noida Resident’s
