New Delhi (India), 10th May 2023: A the day after co-chairing the sixth Canada-India ministerial dialogue on trade and investment and discussing an Early Progress Trade Agreement (EPTA), Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and his Canadian counterpart, Mary Ng, hosted a CEOs roundtable in Toronto.

Ng, Canada’s international trade minister, stated that they organised the roundtable with Canadian and Indian firms to learn firsthand how they can make it simpler for these enterprises to collaborate and prosper.

She said, “The success of the Canada-India relationship is rooted within the close collaboration and hard work of Indian and Canadian businesses.”

After the meeting Piyush Goyal took to Twitter and remarked, “Partners in Growth!…Addressed the CEOs Roundtable in Toronto & invited Captains of Industry to invest in India’s resilient growth.”

The roundtable was organised by the Business Council of Canada (BCC) and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

The two countries are also expected to sign an EPTA this year. EPTA serves as a bridge to the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Last month, Indian and Canadian officials convened the seventh round of EPTA negotiations in Ottawa.

In addition, the two apex chambers launched a new relationship “to connect business leaders from both countries, promote bilateral economic ties, and enhance cooperation as partners in the Indo-Pacific region.”

The two organisations urged the governments of India and Canada to continue working on EPTA “with the goal of successfully concluding negotiations by the end of the year.”
