New Delhi, August 9, 2023: On the 81st anniversary of the Quit India Movement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a subtle dig at the Opposition, asserting that India is now united in its stand against corruption, dynastic politics, and appeasement.
Recalling the historic Quit India movement, PM Modi expressed his reverence for its participants, stating, “Tributes to the greats who took part in the Quit India Movement. Under the leadership of Gandhi Ji, this Movement played a major role in freeing India from colonial rule. Today, India is saying in one voice: Corruption Quit India. Dynasty Quit India. Appeasement Quit India.”
Ravi Shankar Prasad, a BJP MP and former union minister, echoed PM Modi’s sentiment, emphasizing the necessity of ridding the country of family rule and corruption to safeguard democracy. He asserted, “Rampant family rule in politics quit India, stinking corruption quit India, appeasement politics quit India.”
Prasad further questioned the concept of family dynasties, questioning whether “a son or daughter of a leader will become the leader of the party,” regardless of their capabilities. He pointedly addressed Rahul Gandhi, stating that Congress must consider whether he is fit to lead a country like India.
PM Modi has frequently accused the opposition of indulging in corrupt practices, dynastic politics, and appeasement. He has consistently urged the people to reject such politics.
Earlier, PM Modi commented on the no-confidence motion brought by the opposition, suggesting that it aimed to test the trust within their own alliance.
The Quit India Movement, also known as the “Bharat Chodo Andolan,” was launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 8, 1942. It was a significant effort to end British colonial rule in India through civil disobedience and non-cooperation. The movement garnered widespread support and eventually played a pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence.
