Tokyo, Japan, 19th May 2023: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an interview with media channels spoke about the ‘normal and neighbourly’ relations between India and Pakistan.

Speaking to media during his visit to Japan, stressed that he wishes for normal bilateral ties with Pakistan, adding that “it is incumbent upon them to create a conducive environment free from terrorism and hostilities.’

India had repeatedly raised terrorism concerns in Pakistan, the leader said and stressed that the talks would not go hand in hand with terror. This follows last month’s events when Pakistan foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari attended the SCO Foreign Ministers meeting in Goa, but there were no bilateral talks with his Indian counterpart, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.

‘The onus is on Pakistan to take the necessary steps,’ Modi added as he also answered some queries related to ties with China and spoke about India’s efforts to amplify the voices and concerns of the Global South.
