New Delhi(India), 15/08/23: In his address to the nation from the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised India’s female achievers and their contributions to the country’s progress. PM Modi emphasised how women scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) are driving the Chandrayaan mission when speaking about the importance of women-led development.

He said, “Women-led development is the one thing that will propel the country ahead. Today, we can proudly state that India has the most women pilots in civil aviation. The Chandrayaan mission is led by female scientists. The G20 countries have also recognised the significance of female-led development…”

ISRO previously said that around 54 female engineers/scientists worked directly on the Chandrayaan-3 mission. Chandrayaan-3 is a follow-up mission to Chandrayaan-2 that will demonstrate end-to-end capability in safe lunar landing and wandering.

It is made up of an indigenous propulsion module, a lander module, and a rover, and its goal is to develop and demonstrate new technologies needed for interplanetary missions.

Following its July 14 launch, Chandrayaan-3 entered lunar orbit on August 5, followed by two orbit reduction procedures on August 6 and 9.

PM Modi commended women for their contributions to the Indian economy in his Independence Day speech.

PM Modi further said, “I want to thank the mothers, sisters and daughters for women-led development…I’d like to thank my country’s moms, sisters, and daughters for their strength. I’d want to congratulate the farmers for their efforts, which have helped India advance in the agricultural sector. I would want to thank the workers and labourers for their contributions as India progresses towards modernity.”

PM Modi also praised yuva shakti and stated that he has complete faith in today’s youth. “There are plenty of opportunities in the country. The country has the potential to provide limitless opportunities.”
