New Delhi(India), 14/08/23: In honour of the Independence Day, Prime Minister Modi has changed his profile image on X (previously known as Twitter) to the national flag. He also encouraged others to follow suit. In practise, updating display images on holidays such as Independence Day is rarely a major deal.

However, after the new Twitter regulations for verified users were implemented, things have become more complicated. After changing their display picture to ‘Tiranga,’ many notable political leaders have lost their blue or gold checkmarks.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhammi, and Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant are among the famous figures who have lost their gold ticks. Many verified X platform users have noticed that altering their profile image to Tiranga may result in the loss of their prized blue tick.

Late last year, Twitter Blue, which has since been rebranded as ‘X Premium,’ modified the system for awarding blue ticks. Twitter began charging users for the Blue Tick instead of confirming public figures based on identity, occupation, and popularity. In India, you must pay Rs 900 a month if you use the Android or iOS app, and Rs 650 if you use the website.

Many new users decided to acquire the blue tick, and because many individuals had names that were similar to celebrities or politicians, the blue tick disseminated falsehoods. Twitter then decided to implement new policies in order to avoid a repeat of the situation.

“Changes to your profile photo, display name, or username (@handle) will result in a temporary loss of the blue checkmark until your account is validated as continuing to meet our requirements,” according to the X Premium listing. They further added, “During this review period, no further changes to your profile photo, display name, or username will be permitted.”
