PM Preaches to DU Students at Centenary Celebrations, says ‘OTT par wo series…wo wali reel dekhi?’

New Delhi, 30th June 2023: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Friday that Delhi University was more than simply a university, he said that it was a “movement” that had lived and breathed life into every activity.

Addressing the Valedictory Ceremony of DU’s Centenary Celebrations, PM Modi demonstrated his connection with the youth by mentioning the importance of college festivals in a student’s life and the wide range of problems they discuss with their friends on campus.

The PM said, “Every DU student wishes to participate in a college festival. It is a similar opportunity for me.”

He congratulated the Professors, students and alumni on the completion of 100 years of the university.

He said, “Mai maanta hun ki DU ne sau saalon mein agar apne ehsaason ko zinda rakha hai to apne mulyon ko bhi zinda rkha hai. ( I believe, in it’s 100 years DU has not only kept alive it’s experiences but along with that it has kept alive it’s values.)”

Narendra Modi jokingly referred to two DU students getting together and said, “They will discuss everything and anything…’kaun si film dekhi? OTT par wo serial achhi hai…wo wali reel dekhi ya nahi dekhi’ (Which movie have you seen? Is that OTT web series any good? Did you see that video?). There are numerous subjects to discuss.”

Highlighting the importance of innovation amd startups the PM said, “ Aaj Yuva zindagi ko ismein (degree aur naukari) mein baandhana nahi chahta. Vo kuch naya karna chahta hai…aaj startups ki sankhya dekh mein ek lakhko bhi par kar gayi hai (Today’s youth doesn’t want to limit their life to degrees and employment. They want something new…Today the number of startups in India has crossed 1 lakh.)

On Friday morning, the Prime Minister took the metro from Lok Kalyan Marg Metro Station to Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro Station in the national capital to visit Delhi University. PM Modi was also seen mingling with people on his route to the Delhi University centenary festivities.

On May 1, 1922, the University of Delhi was founded and over the last century, the University has grown and expanded tremendously, with 86 departments, 90 colleges, and over 6 lakh students.

PM Modi stated that the fast expansion in the number of IIT, IIM, NIT, and AIIMS colleges in recent years has resulted in these institutes becoming “building blocks of new India.”
