A fortnight ago a Nigerian student was attacked in a Greater Noida mall. The incident happened after a class 12 local resident had died of drug overdose. This was followed by a Nigerian lady claiming a fake attack incident which was immediately refuted by police authorities.
Indeed some anti-social elements are repeatedly trying to create divide between African residents and local people. A similar incident occurred in Royal Society of Sigma-4 sector in Greater Noida on Tuesday evening. Allegedly two pieces of raw meat were discovered in the society premises by a lady doctor. She informed the guard who considering disciplinary violations started questioning nearby flat owners for improper disposition of meat pieces.
Co-incidentally two groups of African residents also stay in two different flats of the concerned society section and hence were also asked about the found pieces. African residents of the society claim that they were specifically targeted by people because of their ethnicity. Society residents however say that many other families were also questioned same as African occupants of the flat.
It is being reported that at the time of the incident a verbal altercation between an Indian lady and an African lady ensued. Two police constables who were already stationed at the society gate for precautionary measures interfered and tried pacifying the situation. Meanwhile they also called the SHO of Kasna thana Awaneesh Dixit who promptly came and resolved the situation.
Speaking to Ten News SHO Kasna thana said,”this was a simple confusion that was blown out of proportion by the involved parties. We have held talk with all concerned people and we don’t think it should be further escalated”.
However African residents residing in the society have also involved African Student Union of India and are demanding an immediate apology for false implication and racial profiling. They are also seeking intervention of Nigerian embassy in the matter.
Society has meanwhile said that if matter is formally brought to the notice of the working committee it will order an inquiry and do the needful. Some society residents on condition of anonymity have claimed that it is a very peaceful society and a non-incident is unnecessarily being fanned by African people to get special treatment. They also claim that some anti-social elements might be involved in the matter who would want to fetch the maximum advantage out of current prevailing tension between the two communities.
An eyewitness of the incident has claimed that it was a simple verbal debate between two ladies in their individual capacities and would have gone completely unnoticed if the nationality issue hasn’t been involved in the picture. The person also refuted any claims of racial discrimination and says that people in society usually keep to themselves and encourage no such activity.
