Railways lost Rs 1,602 cr due to concessions

New Delhi, Aug 5 (IANS) Indian Railway suffered a revenue loss of Rs 1,602 crore in the year 2015-16 over various concessions being given to passengers.

“Revenue forgone due to concessions being given to passengers due to various categories is Rs 1,602 crore,” said Minister of State for Railways Rajen Gohain in a written reply in the Lok Sabha on Friday.



The railways provide concession to passengers in 24 categories such as senior citizens, patients and Padma awardees.

The railways lost Rs 1,285 crore in revenue by giving concession to the senior citizens followed by physically-challenged persons who got relief worth Rs 107 crore.

The minister also said that there was no proposal to make any changes in the concessions being given to the passengers.
