New Delhi (India), March 13, 2023: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has commended the state government’s package for families of martyrs under a state scheme that includes an allotment of land, housing, jobs, and schools in the name of martyrs. Gehlot has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for “misguiding” people and “tainting” the image of Rajasthan.

During a recent press briefing, Gehlot praised the package for war widows, stating that “the kind of package given by Rajasthan isn’t there anywhere in the country.” He further added that the jobs will be reserved for the children of martyrs, and even if a woman is pregnant, her job will be kept reserved.

The widows of martyrs from across the state have recently met Gehlot to express their support for the policies announced by the Rajasthan government. However, some BJP leaders have accused the Congress government of suppressing voices and manhandling elected representatives.

The widows have been protesting since February 28, demanding a change in rules so that their relatives and not just their children can get government jobs on compassionate grounds. They have also demanded the construction of roads and the installation of statues of martyrs in their villages.

The BJP has taken out a large protest rally in Jaipur against the Congress government’s alleged insensitivity towards the widows of Pulwama martyrs and the manhandling of BJP MPs. In response, Gehlot has urged the opposition not to politicize the issue and stated that “such activities don’t suit the opposition.”
