New Delhi, 19 May 2022: The Lady Hardinge Medical College’s resident doctors have gone on a strike on Thursday, pulling back all the routine and emergency services from 9 am onwards.
The strike took place after doctors of Kalawati Saran Children’s Hospital were physically attacked by the relatives of twin babies who died at the hospital.
An institutional First Information Report was demanded under the Delhi Medical Services Prevention of Violence and Property Damage Act by the doctors with the provision to exclude the presence of assaulted doctor in the legal processes. Additionally, they also insists to have bouncers at sensitive areas of the hospital and constitution of a response team.
In a letter to the Medical Director, the doctors urged on having one patient- one relative policy in the hospital. “Such brutal attacks and inhuman behaviour with life-saviours is not acceptable,” they said.
The Federation of Resident Doctor’s Association and the Resident Doctors Association MAMC took it to social media criticising the incident, “We condemn the assault on DOD in LHMC & Kalawati hospital, by the attendant of a patient. Another such incident in a long list of many heinous and abominable crimes against HCWs. Doctors protection act is need of the hour! @IMAIndiaOrg @AshishOnGround @MoHFW_INDIA @SatyendarJain.”
