All eyes on India as today it has emerged as one of the largest functional democracies in the world also it is building its capacities to become the super power in the years to come. We both men & women must act decisively to grab this opportunity. We need to think big and scale up rapidly in each and every sphere, be it education, infrastructure, industry, financial services or for that matter equality of both genders. For around two centuries social reformers have endeavored to bring women out of confines in which centuries of traditions had kept them. As per the 2011 census, the percentage of female literacy has shot up to 65%, 11 % up from 2001.

As a matter of fact we should not forget that history is a witness to the women who have in the past demonstrated unique leadership qualities. Razia Sultan, Rani of Jhansi, Sarojini Naidu, Indira Gandhi and now leaders like Mamta Banerjee, Vasundhara Raje and Mehbooba Mufti, first woman chief minister of the valley are few inspiring examples of women empowerment. Earlier most women were able to demonstrate the leadership qualities only at their home fronts , traditionally speaking in Indian society man has always acted as the master of scene and the decision regarding the issue of empowering women has always  been taken by him. God has gifted women with rare qualities such as compassion, tender heartedness, caring nature and concern for others. These very qualities show that women can become great leaders. Though some women have proved their mettle at different platforms yet a large number of them have to sharpen their leadership qualities in various ways. Therefore, empowerment of women is the prerequisite to change a developing country into developed country.

Given the fact that educational attainment and economic participation are the key constituents in ensuring the empowerment of women. Educational attainment is extremely essential for empowering women in all and diverse spheres of society. Providing education of comparable quality along with updated existing knowledge relevant to current needs, women can grab well paid formal sector jobs and go hand in hand with men.  We need to acknowledge the fact that #EconomicEmpowerment of women stands as a vital element for strong #EconomicGrowth of the country.

Empowering women enhances their ability to influence changes and to create a better society. Other than educational empowerment changes in women mobility and social interaction & changes in intra-household decision making are necessary. Traditionally, gender based divisions generally persisted in intra-household decision making. Women are equal to men in all aspects. Women being more perfectionist and have the power to nurture & transform. Today, women are emerging as leaders in diverse fields and are excelling both professionally and personally, be it aeronautics, medicine, space, engineering, law and politics you name the profession they are there.

Well considering the transition that has started taking place, in India the empowerment process has already begun. We are now witnessing a steady improvement in the enrollment of women in schools, colleges, and even in professional institutes. Nowadays women are entering into the job market in increasing numbers. They are exhibiting their talent even in non-traditional sectors like police, defense, administration, media & research fields. Furthermore, the reservation of women in politics is a significant step towards their #PoliticalEmpowerment. The day is not too far when 33% reservation for women in Parliament will become a reality, then women’s voice will be heard at the highest forum of democracy. That day women of India will reach zenith in their empowerment. But, till then lot of work needs to be done to achieve this dream that will open a new chapter of Women Empowerment in India.
