Govt wants to promote India as Global Services Hub

The Second Edition of GES is slated to begin from April 20-23 to showcase India’s potential in service sector

 

 

Greater Noida, April 18: India’s services sector has seen a higher rate of growth in terms of exports as well as in domestic market. Through the Global Exhibition of Services (GES)-2016, the government wants to promote India as a leading services hub in the world, said Shri  Sudhanshu Pandey, Joint Secretary, Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, while addressing a press conference at the at the India Expo Centre and Mart, Greater Noida, on April 18.

 

“We have seen a higher rate of growth in the services sector. We have also seen that other than IT, there are other services sectors like Healthcare, Hospitality, Tourism, etc which are growing and have seen 10-15% of growth in the past few years,” the Joint Secretary said via video conferencing.

He added that India becoming a hub for global services is “not only advantageous for the country but also natural for the country to be so”.

“The effort here is to provoke our own companies to be more aggressive and proactive in their ventures and that they can become leaders in the global arena. It is this thought process that made us start this event last year. But I can happily say that it will be an annual event from now onwards,” Shri Pandey said.

The Government of India, Ministry of Commerce and Industry in association with Services Export Promotion Council (SEPC) and Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) is organizing the second edition of the Global Exhibition on Services from April 20 -23 2016 at Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh.

GES (Global Exhibition on Services) is poised to provide a platform to all delegates and key decision makers from the services sector in India to interact with the best in the world and explore new global business avenues.

The 2nd Edition of GES is positioned in a manner encompassing the whole gamut of services sector namely: Banking and Financial Services, Education, Environmental Services, Exhibition and Event Services, Facility Management, Healthcare, IT & Telecom, Logistics, International Pavilions, Media & Entertainment, Professional Services, SME in Services, Skills, R & D and Tourism & Hospitality.

 

In 2016, GES look forward to a robust and meaningful participation, both nationally and internationally. International participants are expected from several countries – already almost 70 countries, 150 buyers from service sectors, 450 exhibitors and 15 Indian states, 20 PSUs, over 50 international companies have confirmed their presence and many more are expected over the next few weeks. Pre-fixed meetings between businesses, governments and stakeholders will make their time in GES especially fruitful.

Some main highlights this year would be a media and entertainment content market for the first time ever in the capital, a healthcare and a tourism mart to bring stakeholders together over MoUs and B2Bs, a food festival to represent cuisines of the world and spectacular cultural shows organized by ICCR and the I & B Ministry.

It is hoped that GES will catapult the services sector into the global radar and reinforce the role of the services to become the key growth driver of India’s economic trajectory.
