October 7, Mumbai: The two indexes of the Indian stock market, the Sensex and Nifty, finished modestly down after a tumultuous day on Friday on negative global sentiment.
The S&P BSE Sensex closed the day at 58,191.29 points, down 30.81 points or 0.05 percent from the previous day’s close of 58,222.10 points.
Earlier in the day, the Sensex opened in the red at 58,092.56 points and fell to a low of 57,851.15 points. The Sensex momentarily rose in the morning and then fell again in the afternoon. It reached an intra-day high of 58,269.34 points.
After two straight sessions of rallying, the Sensex finished in the negative. On Thursday, the Sensex rose 156.63 points, or 0.27 percent.
The wider Nifty 50 of the National Stock Exchange finished 17.15 points, or 0.1 percent, down at 17,314.65 points, compared to 17,331.80 points the previous day.
On Thursday, the Nifty gained 57.50 points, or 0.33 percent.
