Sensex closes 37 points higher in a volatile session
September 2, Mumbai: In a tumultuous day on Friday, the Indian stock market’s benchmark Sensex finished about 37 points higher, powered by strong buying support for ITC, HDFC, and L&T.
The 30-stock S&P BSE Sensex finished 36.74 points, or 0.06 percent higher, at 58,803.33 points, up from 58,766.59 points the day before.
Earlier in the day, the Sensex opened positive at 58,969.02 points and soared to a high of 59,108.66 points in early session.
Within half an hour of the market opening, the Sensex had fallen into negative territory. It fell as low as 58,558.64 points.
On Thursday, the Sensex fell 770.48 points, or 1.29 percent.
The Nifty 50 index of the National Stock Exchange finished 3.35 points, or 0.02 percent, down at 17,539.45 points, compared to the previous day’s closing of 17,542.80 points.
On Thursday, the Nifty fell 216.50 points, or 1.22 percent.
