Seven members of Assam Militant Group arrested

Imphal, 03rd July 2023: Assam police stated on Sunday that they had detained seven members of a newly established terrorist group on suspicion of extorting money from local businesspeople and others. According to authorities, the arrest was made in response to a complaint filed in Assam’s Tamulpur district last month.

Assam Director General of Police GP Singh stated on Sunday that the terrorist organisation Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) had sought five lahks from a businessman in the Tamulpur district.

On June 26, police filed a criminal case under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 384 (extortion), 506 (criminal intimidation), 386 and 387 (extortion by putting any person in dread of death or serious harm). Further inquiry revealed that the organisation had formed a new terrorist gang, the Boro Liberation Army (BLA).

According to sources, the BLA issued a statement last month stating that they formed a new organisation in February to pursue the desire for a separate state of Boroland.

Dauharu Boro (43), Amit Boro (39), Bhumsa Chandra Boro (23), vice president Rengwna Brahma, Buddhiram Debbarma (45), Bijay Teron (23) and Kajal Rai (38), according to police, have been recognised as its present.
