Born on April 27, 1938, in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Shantonu Sen came from a well-established Bengali family. He spent much of his childhood and youth in Jaipur, where he attended St. Xavier’s School and Maharaja College. After moving to the University of Delhi, Sen completed his master’s degree in English Literature at Hindu College. However, unsure of his career path at that time, he became a teacher. His life took a significant turn in 1963 when he was recruited by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to join the first batch of officers for the Delhi Special Police Establishment, which later evolved into the Central Bureau of Investigation.

A Distinguished Career in the CBI

Sen’s career in the CBI spanned over three decades, during which he became known for his dedication to fighting corruption. He rose through the ranks, serving in various positions and traveling internationally for his investigations.
