Greater Noida, August 17, 2024: Medical services at Sharda Hospital in Greater Noida have been significantly impacted today as healthcare professionals joined the nationwide strike called by the Indian Medical Association (IMA). The 24-hour strike, which began at 6 a.m., is in response to the brutal rape and murder of a female trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata.

In solidarity with the IMA’s demands, doctors and healthcare workers at Sharda Hospital have withdrawn from non-emergency and outpatient department (OPD) services. This move is part of a broader protest that has seen participation from both public and private healthcare facilities across the country.

The IMA is calling for stronger legal protections for doctors and healthcare institutions, emphasizing the urgent need for a central law to address violence against medical professionals. The association has also demanded significant policy changes to ensure the safety of doctors and to prevent such incidents in the future.

The strike has garnered widespread attention, with several other hospitals in the region also participating in the protest. As the day progresses, the impact on healthcare services is expected to be felt across the country, highlighting the growing unrest within the medical community.

The IMA has urged the government to address their demands promptly, warning that continued inaction could lead to further disruptions in healthcare services. The association has vowed to continue their protest until concrete steps are taken to ensure the safety and security of doctors nationwide.
