Sonia Gandhi casts vote in Congress presidential polls, says ‘Waiting a long time for this’

October 17, New Delhi: On Monday, Sonia Gandhi, the Congress president, voted in the party’s election to choose her successor.

When questioned about the election, Sonia Gandhi stated, “I have been waiting for a long time.” Sonia Gandhi voted at the All India Congress Committee headquarters (AICC).

On Monday, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also joined her mother Sonia Gandhi in voting for the next president of the Indian National Congress in the national capital.

Voting for the party’s presidential elections began today at 10 a.m. and will end at 4 p.m. The results will be announced on October 19. Over 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates who make up the electoral college for electing the party’s head will decide the fate of the Congress party.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh voted for the next Congress president as well.

Congress MPs P Chidambaram and Jairam Ramesh, as well as other party officials, voted at the AICC office in Delhi.
