Sourav Ganguly pledges to donate rice worth Rs 50 lakh amid 21-day corona lockdown

Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has pledged to support those affected by the 21-day lockdown due to coronavirus pandemic by donating rice worth Rs 50 lakh.

Ganguly along with Lal Baba Rice will provide for the needy people who have been put in government schools for safety and security, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) announced in a statement.

“It is heartening to note that Sourav Ganguly along with Lal Baba Rice has come forward to provide free rice worth Rs 50 lakh to the needy people who have been put in government schools for safety and security,” said the association.

“Hope this initiative of Ganguly would encourage other citizens of the state to take up similar initiatives to serve the people of our state,” the association further said in a statement.

CAB President Avishek Dalmiya also lent support to the needy people by donating Rs 5 lakhs to the Government’s Emergency Relief Fund.

“CAB President donates Rs 5 lakh to the Government’s Emergency Relief Fund to fight against coronavirus,” CAB said in a statement.

The total number of coronavirus cases in India reached 649 today, with the death toll in the country surging to 13. The confirmed cases comprise 602 Indian nationals and the remaining cases are of foreign nationals.
