GREATER NOIDA News (03/12/2025): India’s MedTech innovation ecosystem received a major boost today with the announcement of a new Spoke Centre of the STPI MedTech Centre of Excellence (CoE) to be established at the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida. The development follows the formal exchange of an MoU between AIC STPINEXT Initiatives / STPI MedTech CoE (SGPGI Lucknow) and GIMS Greater Noida during the AI Impact Summit – Pre-Event held in the national capital.

The agreement was exchanged in the presence of senior dignitaries, including the Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India; Director General & CEO, STPI / CEO, STPI MedTech CoE; Dr. Rambha Pathak, Dean of GIMS; and Dr. Rahul Singh, CEO of the Centre for Medical Innovation (CMI), GIMS Greater Noida.

This collaboration marks the first time a national MedTech Centre of Excellence has established a dedicated Spoke Centre within a public hospital–based medical innovation ecosystem. The new Spoke Centre at GIMS–CMI aims to integrate the deep clinical insights of a government medical institution with the advanced MedTech capabilities of STPI’s national innovation network.

The partnership brings together the strengths of both institutions:

STPI MedTech CoE, Lucknow – Known for its sophisticated prototyping labs, regulatory guidance frameworks, digital health infrastructure, and startup acceleration programs.

CMI, GIMS Greater Noida – A clinical innovation hub offering problem validation, immersion opportunities for innovators, user testing facilities, and access to doctors and real-world clinical environments.

Under the MoU, startups associated with either centre will now benefit from shared facilities and infrastructure. Startups nurtured at STPI MedTech CoE in Lucknow will gain direct access to clinical settings, validation expertise, and clinician feedback through GIMS–CMI. Startups incubated at GIMS–CMI will be able to utilise STPI’s state-of-the-art labs, advanced prototyping resources, and national-level MedTech support systems at Lucknow. This reciprocal arrangement is expected to streamline the journey from innovation to clinical validation and eventual scale-up, strengthening the entire MedTech development pipeline.

Speaking at the MoU exchange, senior leaders highlighted the transformative potential of the collaboration.
They noted that integrating clinical expertise with high-end prototyping capabilities would significantly accelerate India’s ability to design, test, validate, and commercialise medical technologies that meet global standards.

The partnership between STPI MedTech CoE and GIMS–CMI creates a powerful, unified innovation ecosystem. This collaboration will empower startups to develop solutions faster, validate them more effectively, and scale them with greater confidence.

The new Spoke Centre, located in the heart of the NCR, is expected to provide major advantages for the region’s innovation landscape. It will expand MedTech infrastructure in Greater Noida, provide easier access to resources for startups across Uttar Pradesh and North India, and stimulate collaboration between clinicians, researchers, engineers, and industry.

By combining clinical validation with cutting-edge MedTech capabilities, the initiative aims to accelerate the development of affordable, high-quality medical devices and digital health technologies that can be adopted both nationally and globally. The partnership marks a significant step forward in building a distributed, interconnected MedTech innovation network across the state—strengthening India’s position as a major contender in the global health technology space.
