SUV collides with bus in Gujarat, 9 dead

Gujarat, 31 December 2022: In the early hours of Saturday morning in Gujarat’s Navsari district, a bus and an SUV collided, leaving at least nine people dead and several others injured. The collision happened on the Ahmedabad-Mumbai highway, according to VN Patel, deputy superintendent of police in Navsari.

According to Patel, one person who was critically injured had been sent to Surat, according to ANI.

Eight of the nine passengers in the SUV and the chauffeur of the luxury bus, according to a PTI report, died at the scene, according to Navsari Superintendent of Police (SP) Rushikesh Upadhyay. According to Upadhyay, the people riding in the SUV were Ankleshwar locals returning home from Valsad, and the people aboard the bus were also Valsad locals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered an ex-gratia of 2 lakh for each deceased person’s next of kin as a way of expressing his sorrow over the loss.

“Effected by the deaths caused by a car accident in Navsari. My condolences go out to the departed families. I wish the injured a speedy recovery. The next of kin of each deceased person would receive an ex-gratia payment from PMNRF of Rs. 2 lakh. The injured would receive a payment of Rs “the Office of the Prime Minister stated.

Amit Shah, home minister, sent his sympathies to the families of those killed in the accidents.

“The traffic tragedy in Navsari, Gujarat, is tragic. My sympathies go out to those who lost family members in this tragedy. May God provide them the fortitude to endure the suffering. The local government is providing emergency care to the injured while wishing them a swift recovery,” Shah tweeted.
