New Delhi, July 8, 2022: In conversation with Ten News, the Passport Man of India, Dr. Dnyaneshwar Mulay, a member of the NHRC and a former Indian Foreign Service diplomat enthusiastically told about his inspiration and motivation for opting for the IFS service.
He described an incident when he was six years old, “On the first anniversary of our school, we had a Chief Guest, an IAS officer,” he narrated. “What I realized is that even though he was the youngest, everyone, including my older teachers were running around trying to please him,” he said. “So, I wondered, why so much respect for such a young person?”
“I did not remember anything by the end of his address, except the word IAS because it was written under his name,” he said. “That night I had a dream, where instead of his name I saw my name and the same kind of description,” he recalled with bliss. “At quite an early age, I started thinking about it and preparing about it.”
Dr. Mulay explained that in those days there was not much information readily available about Civil Services and UPSC exams. He would then talk about it to his teachers and even write letters collectors in hopes to learn more about the profession.
“Kolhapur has a very long tradition of social reformers,” Dr. Mulay said. “People in Kolhapur are very familiar with the lives of people like Mahatma Phule, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Raja Ram Mohan Roy,” he said. “We were all inspired and we thought that we are born to change the society,” he said with pride. “So, when I heard about the Civil Services, I heard it again and again that it is the best way to get yourself involved in social reform,” he said.
“That urge to change the society stay with me till now. And it will stay with me forever,” he concluded.
