New Delhi (India), 29th April 2023: Lord Johnson remarked during the inauguration of the new British Trade Office in Pune that he was encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by Indian businesses for investing in the UK. According to United Kingdom Minister of Investment Lord Dominic Johnson, India is on the verge of the most spectacular decade in the history of the globe.
He said, “I also think there is a huge opportunity for financial services in the UK to act as a capital funnel into India. I think India is on the verge of the most extraordinary decade of any country in history in economic terms.”
The minister added, “But you are going to need capital, lot of liquidity and the one place that can provide that is the United Kingdom as London and other financial services across the UK will act as a very significant funnel in terms of international capital being funnelled from the rest of the world into India.”
According to an official announcement, India is a priority market for the UK, and the minister’s visit will help build momentum for the two nations’ ongoing trade negotiations, which began this week with Round 9.
When asked about the ongoing free trade negotiations, Lord Johnson stated that he is not involved in them, but he added, “I am excited and think the more trade we do with India, the better.”
Lord Johnson during his visit spoke with corporate executives in Maharashtra’s second largest city Pune, including Serum Institute of India, Bharat Forge, and Zensar, as well as some other potential and present UK investors.
Addressing the inauguration event, Lord Johnson said, “It is fantastic to be in India again and visiting the vibrant city of Pune for opening the British Trade Office, which will act as our signal of our commitment to Maharashtra and India.”
