New Delhi, 25th May 2023: With the inauguration of the new Parliament building coming up, both Biju Janata Dal and YSRCP announced their decision to attend the inaugural ceremony on Wednesday.
The letter issued by the BJD spokesperson confirmed that they believe the Parliament, as a symbol of democracy, stood above politics, and its authority and majesty should be preserved at all costs. “The BJD believes that these constitutional institutions should be exempt from any issue that could jeopardise their sanctity and honour. Such concerns can always be raised in the August house.”
The inauguration scheduled for this Sunday would be boycotted by 19 opposition parties, who announced in a joint statement which termed the inauguration a “grave insult” and “direct assault” on democracy. They had indicated that President Draupadi Murmu would not unveil it, which was an insult to the nation.
The BJD declaration came only two weeks after Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
