With a likely government in Punjab, AAP eyes to replace Congress as principal opposition in country

Punjab (08/03/2022): A party born barely a decade ago may be all set to form government in the second state. Aam Aadmi Party, which is already in power in Delhi, seems inclined victorious in Punjab too.
The border state has a total of 117 assembly constituencies and many exit polls give AAP about 65 to 70 seats.
A victory in Punjab for AAP, which is also in power in Delhi, will give the party an opportunity to implement its governance model in a full-fledged state for the first time.
After this victory, AAP will also join the rare list of political parties in the country who have formed government in two state, on their own.
Moreover, as AAP is also contesting in Goa, Uttarakhand and UP, some vote share magic may reinforce its candidature to get the status of national party, which is accorded by election commission after fulfilling certain criterias.
However, one’s victory is the other one’s loss. And that what might turn true as a likely victory of AAP may also lead to it gaining strength in other regions and eating into the vote share of other key BJP opposition parties, such as Congress.
If Kejriwal’s magis works, AAP may become the main opposition party in the country, pushing Congress on a position where its fight for even the second spot will get tough.
