Greater Noida (24/01/2019) : Greater Noida residents are jubilant and excited with the news of inauguration of Noida-Greater Noida Metro line. This aqua metro line route was a much awaited project with after prolonged delay has finally become functional and would be inaugurated on Friday by UP CM Yogi Adityanath.

However, after metro connectivity, the one thing that the residents of this urban city need the most is a –proper functional railway station.

The city of Greater Noida with an estimated population of over 2 Lakh temporary and permanent residents, still lacks a railway station despite after over 2 decades of its establishment.

There are 3 small railway stations near Greater Noida namely Dadri, Boraki and Ajaibpur, however with none of these having many train stops, all residents have to go to New Delhi for catching a train.

The distance from Pari Chowk to New Delhi Railway station is about 40 Kilometres and takes over an hour by self-transport to reach. The time with public transport being even higher than 1 and half hours.

Instead the two nearby stations namely, Boraki railway station lies on the Delhi-Kolkata route whereas Dadri lies on the Ghaziabad – Tundla section of the Delhi – Kanpur main line. Only if these stations can be developed properly and stoppages of more trains is added, it can become much more convenient for the residents of Greater Noida to board a train and to travel to most parts of the country.

As of now the only trains that have a halt at Dadri Railway station are Hathras Killah – Delhi – Hathras Killah MEMU, Delhi – Aligarh – Delhi MEMU, Tundla – Delhi – Tundla MEMU, Lichchavi Express and Suhaildev Express.

While there are plans to revamp the Dadri yard for a freight corridor movement, there seems to be no interest or initiative by the government to make the station more usable for the general public.

On the other hand, Boraki railway station also remains more or less unutilized as of now. Reportedly, the government plans to revamp Boraki junction and create multi modal transport hub around it over an area of 400 acres.

Indeed, for residents as well as for thousands of students living and studying in different colleges of Greater Noida, it can be a great respite if the stations near Greater Noida are enhanced to include more train stoppages and to cater to more number of passengers.
