New Delhi: ( 09/01/2019) The Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Durga Shanker by lighting the lamp inaugurated the Workshop on Solid Waste Management in Ganga Towns, in New Delhi. The Secretary, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, U.P. Singh, VK Jindal, Swachh Bharat Mission, MoHUA, D.S. Mishra, Secretary, MoHUA,MoS H&UA Hardeep Singh Puri were also seen at the event.

V.K. Jindal, JS and National Mission Director, SBM-U, delivering the welcome address at the Workshop on Solid Waste Management in Ganga Towns touched upon the importance of convergence between Namami Gange, Swachh Bharat Mission.



U.P. Singh, Secretary, MOWR, RD & GR highlighted the progress of Namami Gange and the challenges ahead at the Workshop on Solid Waste Management in Ganga Towns.

D.S. Mishra, Secretary MoHUA, announced a special category of awards for Ganga towns in Swachh Survekshan 2019 at the Workshop on Solid Waste Management in Ganga Town.

Hardeep Singh Puri speaking on the occasion said, “Today, the tide has turned. What started as a Government programme has become a ‘Jan Andolan’. People and young children have embraced the Prime Minister’s idea like no other. Literally, societal awakening is taking place.”

He further said, “I believe that the secret to the success of the Mission whether it is the Ganga Mission or the Swachh Bharat Mission encompassing the whole country lies in the synergy between the elected representative and the Commissioner of the city.”

“People are becoming conscious of the need to process waste into compost, to segregate waste and towards the fact that waste constitutes wealth” added Puri.
