New Delhi (India), 29th June 2023: Xiaomi India, a prominent Chinese smartphone company, is undergoing considerable reorganisation in response to issues such as a drop in market share, greater scrutiny from government agencies, and the need to streamline its operations.
According to numerous current and former employees who talked to the Economic Times, Xiaomi India has begun a headcount reduction strategy with the goal of reducing its employment to less than 1,000 personnel.
Xiaomi India employed roughly 1,400 to 1,500 people at the start of 2023. However, the company has already laid off roughly 30 employees in recent weeks, with further job losses expected in the coming months, according to the aforementioned employees.
Xiaomi India said, “As with any company, we take headcount decisions based on the market’s state and business projections.” However, according to Xiaomi, it continues to hire talent “when and where needed.”
The employment reduction appears to be part of Xiaomi India’s broader efforts to react to shifting market dynamics and increase in operational efficiency. With its market share declining, the corporation is examining ways to improve its organisational structure and better allocate resources.
