CONFERENCE ON “CARVING A NICHE MARKET FOR INDIAN HANDCRAFTED GOODS” DURING THREE DAY TEXTILES INDIA 2017 AT MAHATAMA MANDIR, GANDHINAGAR, GUJARAT

New Delhi – July 2, 2017  –  The first ever mega event Textiles India 2017 held at Gandhinagar, Gujarat from 30th June to 2nd July, 2017. Member exporters of  all Export Promotion Councils have been displaying their best products to the overseas buying community.

The EPCH – Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts organized a Conference on  “Carving a Niche Market for Indian Handcrafted Goods” at Mahatma Mandir, Gandhinagar, Gujarat.  The Hon’ble Union Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism & Culture, Govt. of India, Dr. Mahesh Sharma presided over the above conference alongwith Shri Anant Kumar Singh, Secretary (Textiles), Govt. of India and with eminent speakers Ms. Rosy Greenlees, President, World Crafts Council Int’l,  Shri O.P.Prahladka, Chairman-EPCH, Shri Rajeev Sethi of Asian Heritage Foundation  and Shri Ravi Sharan, leading exporter from the handicraft sector.

The Hon’ble Union Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism & Culture, Govt. of India, Dr. Mahesh Sharma emphasized on the need to launch a nationwide project to preserve rich heritage and culture of India.  Indian heritage is world famous for its rich culture.  Hon’ble Minister informed the august gathering that Hon’ble Prime Minister of India has recently launched Cultural mapping of India, scheme for registration of artisans on PAN India basis.  He informed the house that Rs.470 crores scheme of registration of Indian Artisans through online portal and helping artisans for recognition of their art and craft.  Already 1.20 crore artisans have been registered on online portal under this scheme.

Hon’ble Minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma further informed that the Government of India will recognize their skill and craftsmanship through an awards.

Hon’ble Minister Dr. Mahesh Sharma further informed that the Government of India also announced economic freedom is approaching through GST in the Indian economy.

He appreciated the efforts of the Ministry of Textiles for successfully organizing Textiles India’2017

Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director, EPCH said that on this occasion, Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Hon’ble Union Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism & Culture, Govt. of India released a book on “Handcrafted in India”

Shri Anant Kumar Singh, Secretary (Textiles), Govt. of India during his address informed that there is need technology and marketing tool support to Handicraft sector.

Ms. Greenlees, eminent speaker stated that world is heading to 21st century and artisans are the heros in cultivating, preserving and promoting arts, crafts and culture of country.

Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director, EPCH said that during above conference eminent speakers like Mr. O.P. Prahladka, Chairman-EPCH, Ms Rosy Greenlees, President, World Crafts Council Int’l,  Mr. Rajeev Sethi, Founder Asian Heritage Foundation and Mr. Ravinder Sharan, eminent speaker shared their vast experience in the handicraft sector during the above conference.

Dr. Mahesh Sharma, Hon’ble Minister also visited Handicraft Hall in Textiles India’17.  About 195 exhibitors of fashion Jewellery, accessories, houseware, textile, furniture and accessories, houseware decoratives displayed their wide product range.
