Finance Minister Arun Jaitley speaks on GST, calls it indispensable for growing India economy

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley today said, “GST midnight session is an opportunity for Congress to understand and become part of a national importance issue. Congress has to decide if it want to take a fringe position or mainstream position in the country.

On issue of West Bengal CM writing letters to postpone GST by Six months Arun Jaitley said, “Mamta Banerjee should read constitution and understand governance. If we don’t implement GST now India will become a tax less economy after 15 septemtber. It will lead to anarchy which we can’t support.”

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said, “For declared income of over Five lakh, tax is being paid in India by 78 lakh people only. 61 Lakh of these people are salaried. Only 17 lakh people otherwise pay income tax or declare their income more than 5 lakh in a country of 130 core population. Hence GST aims at making India a Tax compliant society”.

Arun Jaitley also said with time the rates and tax slabs can be further revised. We have given people time to understand stand get used to GST, that’s why government is not being strict for first two months. He also siad that different tax slabs were necessary to check inflation of price.

On Congress boycott of GST Session he said, “Congress has gone into a cry-baby syndrome. If timing of session becomes the ground of boycotting such an important legislation, Congress certainly needs to become more mature”.
