Greater Noida (19/11/18) : Despite continuous awareness campaign and traffic month drives, number of traffic violators aren’t seem to be reducing.

The district witnessed 5 lakh traffic violations between 1 jan to 15 November this year. So as much as half million people have been accused of violating traffic rules in the city which prides itself as being one of the most literate and advanced city of UP. A total 8 crore rupees as fine has been imposed on these violators but only 2 crore has been collected so far. One of the reasons for slow collect is Noida traffic police’s lack of adequate mechanisms for collecting the same. In the era of digital revolution, the traffic department doesn’t have its own payment gateway so that violators can use it to submit their fine digitally.

Ever since the digital challan system was introduced in Gautam Budh Nagar district of Noida on April 16, 1, 17,285 e-challans have been issued — the highest among all eight districts it has been introduced in Uttar Pradesh as a pilot project, by a margin of over a lakh.

For now Noida and Greater Noida has 5 lakh registered vehicles and apart from this local movement, the city also caters to the load of vehicles that are commuting from outside the district.

People who are ignoring the traffic rules continuously are major cause of headache for the traffic police.

So to overcome this problem SP traffic Anil Kumar Jha had taken an initiative by making use modern technology in traffic management.

The initiative landed up 5 lakh 11 thousand people accused of traffic violations out of which only 60 thousand have been disposed so far.

Currently, the Noida traffic police or the transport department does not have the mechanism or driving licence readers to know if a man caught speeding has past record of violations. The only way now to check for traffic violations is to scan the registration number of vehicle, which in many cases proves futile.

However, with increasing number of challans, we can only hope that the traffic condition in Noida is improves to some extent.
