Rain in Noida and other parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) on Monday evening dropped down the mercury, with the minimum temperature touching 10° Celsius. Residents felt the chill, as light drizzle hit the city around 7pm bringing the traffic to a standstill. The rainfall continued for the next eight hours ensuring a reduction in the city’s minimum temperature. At various points in the city, laborers were seen huddling by the fire.

On Tuesday, the residents did not see any sunshine throughout the day. The maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded at 22°C and the minimum dropped to 10 °C. Due to the drop in temperature and foggy weather, fewer pedestrians were seen on Noida roads on Tuesday.

Due to the rainfall, the air quality index in Noida also showed marginal improvement. The AQI in Noida was ‘poor’ at 224 on Tuesday, with PM2.5 being the major pollutant. For the last few days, the AQI in Noida had been lurching between ‘very poor’ and ‘severe’ categories due to rising air pollution and smog.

“It’s heartening to see some rain in Noida and hopefully the wet weather will boost the city’s air quality in the coming days. We should all be committed to keeping the environment clean by doing our bit as ideal citizens,” Suresh Tiwari, general secretary, residents’ welfare association, Sector 20, said.

However, with the drop in temperature, chances of various ailments such as cold have also increased. Issuing an advisory, chief medical officer of Guatam Budh Nagar, Dr Anurag Bhargav said, “As temperature lowers, there is chance of an increase in blood pressure. Therefore BP patients must not forget to take their medicines and they should protect themselves from the cold.”
