New Delhi : DPCC President Sheila Dikshit thanked Congress President Rahul Gandhi for his announcements made at farmers rally in Chhattisgarh where he had promised for a minimum income guarantee, after the Congress party comes to power at the Centre in 2019.

Sheila Dikshit said that 140 million people were lifted out of poverty between 2004 and 2014 when the Congress-led UPA Government was at the Centre. “Now we should make a determined effort to wipe out poverty in India”, she said.

Sheila Dikshit said that the poor of India have the first claim on the resources of the country.

She said that the Congress Party is determined to find the resources to implement the promise of Rahul Gandhi, and once the promise of Rahul is implemented, no one will remain hungry or poor in any part of the country as it will be implemented in every State of the country, not only in Chattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh or Rajasthan.

Sheila Dikshit said that the Congress party does not want two Indias in this country. That means, she added, the Congress Government at the Centre will ensure a minimum income to every poor person in the country.

“This will be an unprecedented step, which has not been ever taken in any other country of the world to the best of my knowledge and we are going to do it in India after the Congress party comes to power at the Centre in 2019”, she added.

Sheila Dikshit said that the promises made by Shri Rahul Gandhi before the elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisgarh that the loans of the farmers will be written off within ten days after coming to power in these States, giving back the land of the poor and providing proper price to the farmers for their farm products, have been fulfilled.

She said that through MGNREGA, the Congress-led UPA Government provided minimum guarantee of 100 days of employment to the rural people, food security and Right to Information (RTI) schemes were successfully implemented, and the RTI opened the doors of the bureaucracy to the people.

Sheila Dikshit also promised to implement minimum income to the poor when the Congress party comes to power in Delhi in 2020 to ensure that there will be no poor person in Delhi without a regular income.
