19-year-old burns to death in Gandhi Nagar Market Fire

New Delhi, 6 September 2022: In Gandhi Nagar Market Fire Accident, a 19-year-old boy was reportedly charred to death, officials stated on Thursday.

The victim has been identified as Shehnawaj and was an employee at a shop that caught fire on Wednesday. One of the other workers Aftab who had been working at the cloth shop for 12 years said that he along with 4-5 other workers saw smoke from the shop as they returned from the main road.

They had reached the shop from Janata Gali, another entry of the shop at around 5.37 PM.

Soon after, Aftab discovered his own brother Shehnawaj was stuck inside and he instantly called the owner. People reportedly also heard Shehnawaj beating on the door. When the employees instructed Shehnawaj to go upstairs, they tried to pick the locks but were unable to find him. The fire department team just discovered the deceased this morning on the second floor.

The Deputy chief fire officer, SK Dua stated that the classification of the fire was given as medium. There are currently 28 firefighters on duty. The fire has been put out.
