New system to monitor pollution

Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has introduced a new system in Noida to record levels of ultrafine particulate matter in the air. Through this system, which was put in place in January, quantities of suspended particulate matter with sizes less than 2.5 micrometer (PM 2.5) will be measured.

The board has begun monitoring levels of PM 2.5 – easily inhalable and considered extremely harmful to the human body – in four locations. Apart from the existing pollution monitoring stations in Sector 1 and Sector 6, two additional stations have also been set up in Sector 39 and Phase II, which exclusively monitor PM 2.5 levels exclusively.
