Private Schools in Faridabad call for four day strike, may extend it indefinite

Sanjay Chaturvedi

Faridabad:  Protesting against the different provisions of the education policy of government formulated to hamper the interests of private schools, the Haryana Progressive Schools Conference (HPSC) called a token strike of private schools for four days all over the state.  Talking to media persons in Faridabad, District President Shri Suresh Chander said that the conference has decided to hold a token strike for four days starting from 6th May 2016. Accusing the government of drafting rules against the interests of the private schools, Shri Suresh Chander said  that introduction of rule 134A is a discriminating policy against the private schools.

State President Shri S.S. Gusain said that in addition to rule 134A. RTE act is also against the interest of the private schools.  He said that the conference is protesting against the government policies and demand immediate withdrawal of policies detrimental to the overall interest of not only the private schools but in the overall interest of education itself.  He said that if their demands are not met by the government, they would be forced to go on indefinite strike. For the time being, the strike is called for four days only as far as Faridabad is concerned. He said that they are not against educating the poor children under the provisions of rule 134A. But till date the government has not made it clear that how much it would be paying to the schools for providing education to these poor children. He further clarified that on 1st April 2015, High Court pronounced a decision that the private schools are liable to educate the poor children, the fee of which would be reimbursed by the government. No rate of fee was declared by the courts at that time. However, after some time, state government released a circular saying that all the poor children under the scheme would be admitted to government run schools only. The circular provided for government aided schools being taken as second priority after the government schools for admitting these students.   Suresh Chander said that since no students are being sent to private schools in class I, how can they keep the seats vacant in class II for the students sent by the government. He said that due to illogical policy of the government the schools cannot be expected to keep the seats vacant in class I to accommodate the students sent by government agencies for Class II.

Shri Suresh Chander, in his statement said that it is also decided that none of the private schools in Faridabad would be giving their buses for any government rally. He said that why should the schools be giving their buses to a government that is working against the interest of the education. He also cited the example of annual tax to be paid by the schools on each bus that was Rs.880/= till now and has been raised to Rs.25,000/= now. He asked that from where would this increase in tax would be coming if not added to the fees of the students? He also made a mention of increase in the salaries of the teachers from time to time and raised the question that from where do they have to finance this increase in salary of teachers if not charged in fees? He also accused the protesting parents association against the private schools of being dominated by the people not having any of their children studying in schools. He accused these people of gaining political mileage on the pretext of fight for right to education.  He said that now onwards none of these schools would be paying a heed to any recommendations of any political person for any admission. He informed that there are many towns in the state where their local chapters have made a call for indefinite strike.

Present in the press conference were Dr. Sumit Verma, General Secretary, Col. Pratap State Secretary, Mrs. Bimla Verma State Treasurer, Mrs. Neelam Gandhi District Treasurer Faridabad, Dr. Subhash Shyoran, Narendra Parmar, Umang Malik, Bharat Bhushan Sharma,  Navin Chaudhary,  Dr. Rishipal Chauhan,  T.S.
