Millions of students are being fooled by the inferior type of business schools : DR H CHATURVEDI , DIRECTOR, BIMTECH

H CHATURVEDI Renowned Management Guru , Executive President of Education Promotion Society of India and Director of BIMTECH in an exclusive interview with Shamshad Ali correspondent @Ten News

Excerpts from an interview:

TN: What are the key challenges being faced by management education today?
HC: Around 15000 business schools in the world 3000 are in India. Around one million students aspire to take admissions in the management education every year. MBA and PGDM courses are very popular in India.

There are also some challenges within the management education sector like the presence of quality education in the business schools. Out of 3000 business schools only 500 schools are providing quality education. Out of 500 only 100 are fully equipped and providing smart business education. The business schools which are accredited to NAAC , where one can assure of the quality education in such schools. In other B schools millions of students are being fooled by the inferior type of business schools in which those are providing degrees and not quality education.

The second challenge is that the Indian schools are lagging behind globalization of higher education. There should be students from foreign countries and/or faculties from foreign countries. The students should visit foreign countries and will get exposure in International business education which one will never found in IIM’s, there is no foreign faculty. Our institution BIMTECH which is 29 years old from last 15 years we are trying to globalize. Every year we are sending 15 students to foreign universities and receiving 15 foreign students at our institution. Like 50 foreign professors are coming to our university to teach our students.

The third major challenge which is not applicable to Indian business schools but all over the world . There is a widening gap in the need of the industry and knowledge skills in the business schools so what is taught in the business schools it is not many times relevant to the industry and what is needed by the industry, it’s not taught. The methods of teaching is not much relevant and teaching practices which should be provided to the students and teachers as well. In schools like BIMTECH, IIM and IMTetc. These are linked based business schools where you will find faculty members experienced . Like at BIMTECH out of 60 faculty members 25 have 30 to 40 years of experience of working with the industry. According to me you cannot teach management by books or by teaching classes but by practical classes . Like you cannot impart medical education without hospitals to do experiments like in management you need exposure from the industry.

The last one challenge is rigid control of regulatory bodies because these authorities are not differentiating between quality education and poor education. They are applying same rules to the universities, and institutes – performing good or bad..
