One of the most awaited metro projects Kalkaji Mandir-to-Janakpuri West section of Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line is expected to be open for commuters by next week. Safety inspection work is currently going over the 25 km long metro link that began on May 8. Now as these trials are completed Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will announce the date for the section to start operations soon.

Half of this routes corridor falls between Botanical Garden in Noida and Kalkaji Mandir is already in service and was inaugurated in December last year. As now the rest of section of this route will also soon become functional, it will not only bring Vasant Vihar, Munirka, Indian Institute of Technology, Greater Kailash, Chirag Dilli and other localities in south Delhi on the Delhi Metro map but will also reduce the distance and time between South Delhi and Noida.

Commuter travelling on yellow line will also have provision to change interchange at Hauz Khas metro station for Magenta Line. This will also reduce the existing travel time between Gurugram and Noida by about half an hour and will now be about 50 minutes.

Around 4 lakh commuters from west Delhi will get direct connectivity from rest of the city without changing at Rajiv Chowk. As the new corridor will pass through and connect heavily populated areas like Palam, Dabri, Mahavir Enclave, Sagarpur and Dashrathpur.

The domestic terminal of the Indira Gandhi International Airport will also get a metro link through this route for the first time.

While the Airport Express Line has a stop at Terminal 3, there was no metro connectivity for the domestic terminals from which the low-cost operators fly. Now, the domestic terminal can be reached from most parts of the capital and also from Gurugram and Noida, thanks to the many interchange points that allow changing to the Magenta Line.

This line will also bring Jawaharlal Nehru University on the metro rail route and students will be benefited and so would IIT D with a dedicated station to its name.
