Noida, (7/1/2019): Noida Authority and HCL Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of HCL Technologies Ltd, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Project Clean NOIDA. As part of the MoU, HCL Foundation will collaborate with NOIDA for analysing, planning, designing and implementing effective Solid Waste Management program, focusing on waste segregation at source and effective management solutions for the remaining waste.
RK Mishra ACEO, NOIDA and Navpreet Kaur, Director, HCL Foundation signed the MoU in presence of senior officials from both the organizations.
NOIDA and HCL Foundation will collaborate towards driving engagement with citizens and other stakeholders through public awareness campaigns and other means to promote cleanliness in NOIDA city.
The scope of the MoU also includes developing IT-enabled solutions for solid waste management operations, maintenance, coordination, monitoring and evaluation. There will be an exchange of data to leverage each stakeholder’s expertise and work towards the successful implementation of a strategic action plan. In this regard, a Collaboration Steering Committee is being constituted with representatives from both parties to manage, review, monitor and facilitate all projects.
NOIDA currently generates around 600 metric tonnes of solid waste daily. With a rising population, the waste generated by the city is expected to rise many-fold and if not effectively managed can lead to increased pollution and a heightened risk of vector-borne diseases spread by rodents and insects. Thus, there is an urgent need for effective planning and implementation of Solid Waste Management for a clean NOIDA.
The MoU between the Noida Authority and HCL Foundation will be valid for three years.
Alok Tandon, Chairman & CEO, Noida Authority, said on the occasion:
“It is a proud moment for NOIDA that this MoU has been signed for the transformation of the city. It gives me immense confidence in our endeavour towards the development of NOIDA when corporates like HCL work along with the Government. This unique association with HCL Foundation will set an example across the country in the area of waste management. I urge all stakeholders to join hands and work towards the successful implementation of our objective.”
Navpreet Kaur, Director, HCL Foundation addressed the attendees and said, :
“HCL was born in NOIDA 42 years ago, and as such we share a strong relationship with the city and the state of Uttar Pradesh. At HCL Foundation, we believe a bigger impact can be made when working in partnerships rather than acting alone. Keeping this as our focus, we are delighted to partner with NOIDA for implementing Project Clean NOIDA and envision that together we will be able to transform the city’s solid waste management program. I am hopeful that through our combined efforts, we will be able to place Noida high up, in the Swachh Survekshan rankings.”
